Fecal Exam for Cats

Fecal examinations can reveal potential digestive issues from diarrhea to worms in the stool.

Fecal exams are recommended to be done yearly, usually along with their annual physical examination. This test ensures that your cat is free of internal parasites. Even your indoor only cat is at risk.

How is a fecal parasite screen performed?

Once received, we send our fecal tests to our outside lab, Idexx. We usually get our results within 1-2 days.

What is the best method for collecting my cat’s stool?

We can provide you with a fecal “goodie bag”. In these bags, we have a pair of gloves that you can wear to grab the sample. There is also a fecal container in which you can put the stool in, in order to transport the sample to the hospital for drop off. Try your best to collect a sample that has minimal litter on it and is as fresh as you can get.
