Obesity in our furry family members is a growing concern. Obesity can lead to many other health issues and diseases, as well as lower their lifespan. If you are concerned about your cat’s weight, please book an appointment so we can discuss any and all options to help your cat lose weight.
How do I know if my cat is overweight?
If you are concerned about your cat’s weight, one of our registered veterinary technicians would be happy to help determine their Body Condition Score (BCS). This is a better tool to determine their ideal weight compared to an actual number weight. Every pet is built differently, and what is considered a healthy weight for one cat might not be a healthy weight for your cat.
How can I help my cat lose weight?
There are many options out there that can help your cat lose weight. Just a few of these options are introducing special diets, increasing their exercise, and decreasing the amount of food you feed. You can book a nutritional consultation with one of our technicians to determine the best weight loss program for your cat.
What is offered during a nutritional consultation?
During a nutritional consultation with one of our registered veterinary technicians, we will determine the ideal weight for your cat. We will then decide whether they need to lose, gain, or maintain their current weight. From here, we can work with you to find the best weight loss/maintenance/gain program. We will work with your cat’s lifestyle as well as yours, to determine what will work best for both you and your cat. For the best results, everyone in your household should participate in following the determined program for your cat.
